Since I've been in such a lyrically-minded state lately, I noodled out some lyrics to the tune of "My Favorite Things" that sums up why my peeps are so valuable to me.

It's hella corny, but well-intentioned... I originally meant this to go into some sort of Christmas card a few weeks ago, but alas, never got around to doing it.

So, better late (and posted in LJ) than never... thanks to all my friends, near and far, who helped make 2005 a pretty good year, all things considered, and continue to make my life one worth enjoying and celebrating.

MY FAVORITE FRIENDS

Cute nerdy fan geeks with sci-fi obsessions
Hip snarky artfags with witty agressions
Music fans with styles that don't often blend
These are a few of my favorite friends

Aspiring directors and and actors with screenplays
Biologists who can outsmart all the dumb gays
DJs with playlists you can't comprehend
These are a few of my favorite friends

Guys who make video games for a living
CGI wizards with pies for the giving
College professors with blogs that transcend
These are a few of my favorite friends

When its Tuesday
Time for Tivo
Time for Jason's food
We simply invite all our favorite friends
And it makes us feel so good!

The water-cooler talk here at work and on LJ seems to be all about what everyone has decided for their New Year's Resolution. I certainly see the reason for the tradition, but it's not one that I usually feel the need to subscribe to. I put enough neurotic pressure on myself for lots of things year-round, so why take out an extra day just to focus extra hard on one thing?

However, it being a New Year and all, I'll cop to the yearly need for a brief post-holiday self- review, if only to create some positive momentum and focus after all that food.

That being said, I can't possibly pick just one thing. So here's a few things that I am looking forward to exploring in 2006.

HEALTH - Of course, this one's too easy, and something everyone says every year. But hand-in-hand with [livejournal.com profile] fidgetcub, we are going to aspire to be slightly reduced, lighter versions of ourselves in the coming year. Nothing drastic, mind you -- but this is the first time in a long time that I've felt slightly uncomfortable in my own skin, so it's time to re-evaluate the vessel a bit.

WORK - Even with all of the drama and change that has occurred in my professional life in the past six months, I'm very, very excited about what the coming year may bring. The more things stay the same, the more they'll need to change.

DRAMA - I will continue to enjoy rousing debate with people who follow the rules of debate. I will not, however, engage in debate any longer with people who are shit-stirrers by nature, or debate only for affirmation or ego. True discourse can be exhilarating when done with like-minded people, and done for the reasons of emotional exploration and intellectual catharsis. But engaging with people who are negative solely for the sake of conflict, it's simply just not worth my time any more. You want to expand my sphere of knowledge? Then convince me with words other than just your own opinion.

NEW!

Please give greetings to [livejournal.com profile] mybear, an awfully nice pal of mine from Nova Scotia who's brand-spanking-new to the LJ scene.
