Every once in a blue moon, a tiny little throw-away acting performance charms the bejeezus out of me. It could be a small role in a film or tv show, or a brief aside in a commercial.

This time, [livejournal.com profile] fidgetcub noticed it first, in an ad for JC Penney. Not only is the spot directed with style and subtle humor, the beautiful little girl in the silent lead role is one heck of an actor.

Every single tiny little look she gives is a flawless piece of sweet, heartbreaking comedy (especially her final, smitten little smile), and makes the spot almost unbearably charming. Whoever she is, I hope she has a long, decidedly non-Lohan-esque career ahead of her.

I saw that! I was really impressed with that entire spot, but the girl...fantastic. I have no doubt we'll be seeing her again very soon.

That really was quite darling; and yes, she manages to communicate so much without a word of dialog.

She is wonderful. In ten years she'll either have an Oscar or be the subject of E! True Hollywood Story.

I was impressed as well. It would be easy for any young actor to overact this part.

Oh yeah, SOOO easy to over-do. Kudos to the director for keeping it tight and leaving the audience wanting more.

It's still not going to make me shop at JC Penney.

You be surprised -- I get about half of my "dress-casual" workwear (mostly shirts, a few slacks) from their "big guy" store. They cary Van Huesen dress shirts in big neck sizes.

Nah. I need really expensive clothes I can spill food on while eating and talking at the same time.

Although I agree with you on her performance, what really made the commercial for me the first time I saw it was the expression on the face of the caught-in-the-middle kid at the end. Perfect! I howled with with laughter!

In general for me, it's not a look that hooks me but a particularly good line reading. Every time I see the ad, I think to myself, Damn! S/he nailed that! The vocal performance can elicit a laugh from me long after the punchline itself is stale.

She's a charmer: big, expressive eyes. That could be your niece Haley in a few years. She has Cobb eyes!

Unfortunately, her marvelous performance makes the lackluster performance of the boy who is the object of her crush all the more noticeable.

Actually, I kinda like his somewhat cheesy, come-hither eye arch. :)

that's really funny, she's great, and the boy's eyebrow shot was just perfect too.

I think I like the performance of the kid in the middle of the boy and girl at the end of the commercial best.
