PRADA / SAFETY CARD
Aug. 1st, 2006 02:06 amJason and I went to see THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA tonight -- Meryl Streep is amazing and yes, it's pretty funny in spots, but the script structure is complete bullshit, especially the incredulous high-road taken by her "friends", especially that unctious boyfriend and his talk of "integrity". Uh, dude, you're both in your early twenties, slow the fuck down. Heaven forbid your girlfriend should have to work long hours at a thankless job -- RIGHT OUT OF COLLEGE. Heaven forbid she forgo a wee bit of social & personal life for a few years in order to, oh, I don't know, figure out what she's good at? At the end, I was fine with her decision, because it was *hers* -- but the fact that her friends gave her such weak support, in a story that's supposed to take place over about six months (when she said she'd try it for a year), was just too trite and dumb.
On a more positive note, there was a funny poster in the lobby for SNAKES ON A PLANE, modeled after an airline safety card. Click the pic to see closeups of all the snakey saftey tips I shot with my crappy cameraphone.
