Anne Bancroft dies at 73
Jun. 8th, 2005 04:12 pmI got to meet Anne Bancroft in 2001 when I saw The Producers on Broadway; after waiting all day in line for tickets, I lucked into getting Mel Brook's one extra house seat that he had given up for the night.
So, giddily, I watched the show sitting next to both Mel and his lovely wife Anne, and they surprisingly joined me for a drink during intermission. They made me feel like their long-lost nephew. He commented on my (loud) laugh, she on my persistence in waiting all day for a ticket in 100-degree August weather.
After being in her gracious, beautiful, ever-friendly presence, I wouldn't have missed it for the world. It was worth the wait.
She will be missed.
