Sing Out Loud
Apr. 1st, 2005 01:26 pmI'm at about 90% with my voice -- *I* can percieve some rasp in my mid-high range, and I can tell it's taking about twice as much breath as I normally need -- but everyone at last night's dress rehearsal said I sounded fine, so I'll take their word for it.
Of course, it helps that I marked the rest of the show (i.e. lip-synched), and only put my full voice into the solos last night. I feel fine today, so I don't think it'll do any harm to my voice to sing lightly tonight -- I'll be able to tell by intermission if it's wearing me out, at which point I can start marking again.
But overall, I think I'll be fine through the weekend -- without the cortisone shot, thankfully (although I still *am* kinda curious as to how it would feel to sing with it).
Anyway, the dress rehearsal went great -- I am constantly in awe of the talent that everyone has in the chorus, especially given that it's a volunteer organization. It's just a really, really talented group of people, and I'm humbled to be a part of it.
Lily Tomlin was hilarious during the dress rehearsal. She's doing most of her well-known characters, most in costume: Ernestine, Tommy Velour, Agnus Angst, Sister Boogie Woman, Trudy the Bag Lady, Edith Ann... she was really exhausting to watch. She's carrying quite a lot of the show, so it's amazing to watch an artist like her work through everything in her head -- I'm excited to see it all fall into place in the performance tonight.
