Make Love to the Camera
Mar. 6th, 2005 08:47 pmMy new camera purchase has been made... I decided on a Canon SD300, mainly because of its size and price. The nearly-identical SD400 comes out in a month, but only bumps up one more megapixel, which I won't miss.

First, it's TEENY TINY. Smaller than my iPod, smaller than my Treo600 even. So far, it seems to take pictures as least as good as my trusty old Canon S30, which I swore by. I tend to like to crank the ISO up and not use flash, and it handles natural light pretty well for such a small lens; however, it only goes to ISO 400, unlike the S30 which went to ISO 800. It also has an amazing 60fps video mode that is staggeringly crisp.
I've put up the first round of new-cam pix on my website, featuring![[livejournal.com profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/external/lj-userinfo.gif) fidgetcub and

howbearca's hubby Griff and ![[livejournal.com profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/external/lj-userinfo.gif) profkampf. They're mostly shot in manual mode, and mostly without flash at ISO 400 -- so, they're a bit soft and grainy, which is actually how I like 'em. :) I'm still getting used to the various manual settings (not to mention getting used to steadying such a small camera for handheld shots -- it weighs practically nothing). But overall, I'm very happy with it so far.
