JULIE & CASSANDRA

Over the weekend, we took in a performance of the always-hilarious MISMATCH GAME, a live improv parody of the classic 1970s game show, done semi-regularly here in town for charity. Dennis Hensley gathers up six of his celebrity pals for a panel, and they impersonate either current celebs or classic stars from they heyday of the original show. We've been about a dozen times, and every time we're left sore from laughing (check out the video clips). This time around Miss Julie Brown was on the panel, playing Susan Boyle (in a caterpillar-like unibrow). One of the perks of the MisMatch Game is that the hand-written cards that the celebs use for their (often profane and usually hilarious) answers are auctioned off during the show for charity. We bought one from Julie/Susan (Q: "Years ago, Oprah Winfrey used to date John Tesch. Every time he would play his music, she would *blank*." A: "Block out the sound with Gayle's thighs." See the actual card here). I asked her to sign it for me, and she was awesome enough to take photos with me and Jason
Leaving the theater, we noticed that Cassandra Peterson was in the audience (unfortunately not on stage -- OMG I would *die* to see Elvira in the MisMatch Game! Dennis, make that happen!). She looks incredible, but I didn't ask for a photo -- instead, I mentioned that, back in high school, I'd auditioned for her movie Mistress of the Dark, and had actually read *with* her at a number of callbacks, as one of the town teenagers smitten by her in the film. She laughed and said "you know who else read for that role? George Clooney and Brad Pitt." (!)
So in a single evening, I got to meet two of my 1980s gay-teen girl-crushes. Thanks, ladies!
