KODACHROME DISNEYLAND
Aug. 20th, 2009 01:42 pmThis is a treat.... check out this bee-you-tiful, recently-unearthed 1956 Kodakchrome 16mm home-movie footage of Disneyland (including some candid shots of Uncle Walt). It's simply dream-like.
Thanks for the link to my video of the TRON: LEGACY lightcycle reveal at ComicCon -- I was part of the first group allowed in to see it, and it completely blew me away (listen carefully, you can hear me freaking out as we turned the corner).
When TRON came out, I was twelve and lived a block from an arcade and was well-versed in my Atari and Intellivision and Commodore64. Seeing these glowing worlds that my nascent digital generation were heretofore exploring solely on tiny TV monitors suddenly expanded to movie-screen-size, populated by living, breathing characters, absolutely blew my adolescent little mind.
Even though I'd been inducted into my love of sci-fi by the likes of Lucas and Roddenberry and Kubrick, it was actually Lisberger and Bridges and Boxleitner who conjured up for me a new world that, for the first time, really felt like mine, like it was meant for my generation specifically, something that you guys knew I'd totally understand and absorb and champion. I was a nerd converted, and I haven't been the same since.
Can't wait for the new movie. You may be The Dude to some, but to me you'll always be Flynn. :)
