Last night Jason
fidgetcub and I joined Paul and Thilo
teelo for an evening at Susan Feniger's new restaurant, STREET, which opened a few weeks ago.
Best known for being one of the Too Hot Tamales behind Border Grill and Ciudad here in LA, Susan has tried something beyond her usual Mexican/South American repetoire for STREET.
Incorporating mostly Asian influences, STREET serves up exactly what it's namesake invokes -- street food. From curries and sticky rice, to dumplings and noodle soup, an evening at STREET is like strolling through some sort of pan-Asian outdoor market and sampling a little bit of everything. In other words, heaven.
The place was packed and it took a bit for us to get a table, but the wait was worth it, and the staff was friendly and knowledgeable and attentive (and cute!). The decor was striking and beautiful. The food is amazing and comes in perfect portions to try and share a lot of different dishes.
My favorites were the Moldavian Meatballs (creamy and savory, I could have eaten a whole bowl), the Egyptian Fish (flaky and buttery), the Vietnamese Corn (sweet and smoky), and the Korean BBQ Beef (soooo tender).
Not cheap, but not too expensive either. To put it in perspective, our bill for the four of us came out to about two hundred bucks -- but we ate A LOT. Like, twice what I think a "normal" dinner would require (we got caught up in "try-everything-syndrome"), as well as a three rounds of cocktails and four desserts to share. We really pigged out, but MAN was it great.
Highly recommended, a perfect night out.
