Dear John McCain,
I understand you are not aware of how funding for the arts creates jobs. So, I'd like to tell you what I do for a living.
I am a creative director for a company that provides design and production services to developers and major entertainment companies, in the form of theme parks, attractions and museums worldwide. Our company fuels millions of dollars in design & production business into the local Southern California market, and our projects around the world create millions of dollars in specific destination-based revenue and ongoing employment opportunities.
Furthermore, in order to do what we do, we directly employ hundreds of artists of every sort -- illustrators, sculptors, designers, musicians. Our designers are trained in, and influenced by, every classical art form. Contemporary design is fueled by a global history of art, and of artistic stewardship.
It is our job as Americans to maintain a high standard of artistic training and merit, and keep America at the forefront of artistic expression. A good part of our economy is rooted in entertainment -- which would not be possible without the arts.
Thank you so much for asking what I do.
Sincerely,
David C. Cobb
