vwcub was unexpectedly in town for the weekend, so my no-plans weekend turned into some fun hanging out.
Friday night, Mattmattycub and Ray profkampf came by and we all went for hot dogs at The Stand, then caught Kung Fu Panda, which I really liked a lot. It's funny, charming, beautiful to look at, and has some amazing action sequences with some of the coolest fight choreography I've ever seen, animated or not. It's easily the best thing that DreamWorks animation has done so far -- finally, they make something that doesn't resort to poop jokes or pop culture references to get a laugh.
Saturday, we had some brunch, ran some errands, had some sushi for dinner, then went out for karaoke at the Broadway in Long Beach with Bobbobaloo, Matt xxtapemakerxx, Scott intoutdoors, and Buck popebuck1. My voice is still pretty shot, way down in the lower register since my sinus infections last month, so I kept it to low stuff (Pretty in Pink, Sweet Caroline) or songs where I could use my rough gravel to best effect (Only the Good Die Young). Cap that off with some late-night drive-thru McDonalds, and you have a soundly satisfying Saturday evening.
After breakfast today, Josh headed to the airport for his flight home, and I stayed inside out of the heat for the rest of the day, getting caught up on laundry and the last five episodes of Battlestar Galactica that I'd missed (holy crikey! It's totally won me back...).
