A few months ago, I posted about an application called Mojo, which was an iTunes add-on that lets you browse and download music from your friends' libraries, like a private music-sharing chatroom. Alas, it sucked royally, and never really worked through an average home & corporate firewall (even though it touted itself as "zero configuration").

The thing is, I never really needed to share my music, I was just trying to find a way to make my home iTunes library (which is bursting at nearly 100gb) available online -- just for myself, not to share, but so I could listen to it at work and on the road without having to bog down my laptop with a second copy (yes, I have an iPod, too -- but it's only 60gb).

First, I tried MP3tunes.com, which is a virtual "locker" service that you upload all your music into -- which gives the added benefit of a backup of your music, too. It also has a great web player that allows you to log in and play (and even download) your music from *any* computer, not just through iTunes. When I signed up, it was a set price for unlimited space (which has since changed for the worse, of course) -- but I could never get their buggy software to upload all of my music (even when I set it overnight for weeks on end). I ended up canceling because it simply never worked.

Then, I found Simplify Media, another iTunes sharing app that, so far, is working flawlessly. It takes awhile for my home library to completely load into my remote iTunes, but once it does, it works really well. It only lets you stream music (not actually share files), and only works for up to thirty friends, but those are restrictions I can deal with, given how seamlessly and easily the software works -- plus, it's actually free (FYI, if you download it and want to share, my screenname there is "davecobb").

Jason [livejournal.com profile] fidgetcub and I finally went to go see SEX AND THE CITY tonight, and I could not have loved it more. I laughed, I cried... y'know, I had forgotten how much I liked those characters, and it was really great to have them back, especially in such a sweet story.
