DO YOU WANT TO PLAY A GAME?
Jun. 4th, 2008 06:38 pmI may stop and get Mario Kart for Wii on the way home tonight. And/or I may play some XBox Live Hexic or Uno or something.
I'm jonesing for some online multi-player gaming -- but nothing that's going to swallow me whole. I love online gaming, but I don't want to give up my life to it. I want simple and casual and occasional, not foul-mouthed fourteen-year-old online opponents whose sole purpose in life seems to be to kick my ass and make me not want to play online games anymore. I used to love Midtown Madness 3 online with our old XBL LiveJournal group a few years ago -- it's a simple, capture-the-flag-meets-tag driving game -- but alas, that's one of the few old XB games that isn't backwards compatible on the 360. And there's supposedly a new one in development, but it's not out yet.
Or, maybe I'll start up my long-dormant WoW character and give it another shot. I played for one night about two years ago, but it never caught on with me. Maybe because A.) I'm just not an MMORPG guy at heart, or B.) I knew deep down that I would get totally addicted to it and backed away slowly.
On the plus side, WoW did sort of remind me a bit of the classic point-and-click adventure games I loved so much... like Sam & Max, or Maniac Mansion, or Grim Fandango, or Zork. I wish there were more next-gen, online equivalents to those kinds of games.
In the meantime, does anyone want to start up a regular online game night for consoles, and some game suggestions? :) I propose Wednesday and/or Sunday nights, two nights a month...
