BLOG ETIQUETTE
Jan. 11th, 2007 06:58 pmAs it's been reported by a few other folks, Andrew Sullivan's blog has posted a to link all of the infamous LJ bear lip-sync videos. But of course, it takes the mainstream gays two whole years to notice, since the original meme circulated in December 2004. :)
As most of us who particpated in the meme know, they were all gakked onto YouTube, and then cross-posted to a site called BearLOL sometime late last year.
Same thing happened with my Christmas video -- it wasn't up a DAY and someone had put it on YouTube. I politely asked the guy to take it down, or at least put in a link to my blog or website. I eventually put it up under my own YouTube account after he had taken it down.
Anyone know who it is that's cross-posting them? Not that I'm angry, really. I mean, all of these videos are publicly posted -- so I don't think it's wrong to re-post or blog about them, since that's kinda the point. But it would have been nice if they had asked permission first. After all, this stuff takes effort, and it would be nice, if you want to post it elsewhere, to link back to the original creators' website or blog.
That's sort of standard blog etiquette... isn't it?
UPDATE: shortly after posting this, I checked on YouTube and my 2004 lipsync video of "Metro" that had been cross-posted was "taken down due to terms of service violations", and that the user account , "HeroBear" (who I guess also gakked many of the other LJ meme videos) had been suspended. Weird and coincidental! :/
