COMIN' AT YA
Sep. 9th, 2006 06:23 pmI have been remiss in posting about last weekend's awesome trip to Seattle, mainly because I have yet to sort through and upload the 100+ photos I took. Once I get them organized, I'll make sure I give that weekend its proper blogging.
Until then, I'm on day two of the 3D film festival. Last night was a new NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD remake in 3D, done in dual-HD video, which was actually a pretty good reimagining of the original. Evidently they had some technical problems, though, because the 3D wasn't so great, and the film was overall too dark. Kudos for the effort, though.
Today's sceenings included a bunch of very rare RUSSIAN 3D SHORTS, two of which were stop-motion animation and were really interesting. The others included a summer travelogue, cute animal footage, and circus performers.
After that, I stuck around for THE MAD MAGICIAN with Vincent Price. Not as good as HOUSE OF WAX, but it has its charms. It ran with an awesome Three Stooges short called PARDON MY BACKFIRE, which was five minute of knives and pointy things and water and food and oil and fire being thrown, sprayed, and hurled into your face. Wheeee!
On the way out of the theater, I ran into director Joe Dante ("The Howling", "Gremlins"),who I got to know years ago on the Universal lot when he was a "Back to the Future: The Ride" junkie and I was his contact to get on the ride every day at lunchtime. I see him all the time at nerdy film/sci-fi events like this around town, and had a nice chat about nerdy 3D stuff for awhile. I'm always a bit hesitant about approaching him, as I'm sure he gets his share of mouthbreathing fanboys -- but he always recognizes me and says hello, which always feels nice. He even read a few of my scripts way back when as a favor, about ten years ago at Universal, and gave me some nice feedback -- I'm thinking I should send him one of my newer ones now.
Off to dinner, then back at midnight with
moroccomole,
booddhabear and
aairplane for THE STEWARDESSES, a 70s soft-core 3D porn flick.
