Coming up for air after a hectic work week last week (which still isn't over, actually) -- I've been busy doing a ton of video editing and DVD burning, putting together video submissions for this year's THEA Awards, which basically amount to the "Oscars" of the themed entertainment world (albeit completely unknown and fairly unimportant, industry-wise). No, there isn't a red carpet to walk down, and I won't be wearing a fabulous gown to the ceremony.

Saw Herbie: Fully Loaded over the weekend. Let me be the first to tell you that it is well worth your entertainment dollar, and deserves to do far better at the box office than it's currently doing, because A.) it's from a lesbian director, and we need more of those making hit films, B.) it's co-written by Lt. Dangler from Reno 911!, C.) a very cool ex-spud composed the score, D.) that cute nerdy kid from Galaxy Quest and Dodge Ball steals every scene he's in, and E.) it manages to update Herbie a little bit without going overboard with digital effects or losing the goofy, simple charm of the original films.

Seriously, it "feels" exactly like an old Disney-live action comedy, silly and goofy and obvious and sweet. Even the process shots of Lindsay driving inside Herbie could pass for one of the old Dean Jones effects shots, slightly sped-up, and having that "flat" sodium-vapor travelling matte look, unique to 1960s/1970s Disney films (trust me, you'll remember it when you see it). Find a kid under 12 who won't be jaded by the lack of superheroics and take them along -- I guarantee it'll be a hoot for the both of you.

Also got an advance DVD copy of the pilot for CBS' upcoming sci-fi thriller series THRESHOLD, touted as one of a slew of Lost clones that are appearing in the Fall (along with NBC's Fathom, the WB's Supernatural, and ABC's Invasion). Watched it with [livejournal.com profile] bobaloo and [livejournal.com profile] knepbear and [livejournal.com profile] fidgetcub, and all of us immediately said "More, Please!" to the thought of more episodes.

I'll reveal more about THRESHOLD, but if you don't want spoilers, don't click here. )

Okey dokey. Back to the editing bay. Got another couple of days of editing to finish.
