It just started to rain outside, and work is deathly slow today.

To top it off, all the sun I got over the weekend triggered a cold sore. I've been getting them since I was a kid, so I can usually catch it with medication while still at the "tingle" stage, which usually makes it go away in about a day -- but this time, I was out of town on business when I felt it, and stupidly didn't have any zovirax with me. Arrrgh. Going to the doctor this afternoon for a refill.

So, probably no kissing for me at BearQuake this weekend.

Regardless, the past weekend was really great -- Friday night was my first improv performance in years. Our group is fairly tight for only being together about twelve weeks -- and while there were certainly some misses that night, there were an equal amount of hits, so I'm happy. We were nervous, but a good kind of nervous, and comfortable with each other and listening to each other. So it was good. A slew of LJers came out, for which I'm grateful: [livejournal.com profile] cpratt, [livejournal.com profile] danlmarmot, [livejournal.com profile] moroccomole, [livejournal.com profile] djmrswhite, [livejournal.com profile] bobaloo, [livejournal.com profile] cubbcake, [livejournal.com profile] simonbear, [livejournal.com profile] umkinda, and of course, [livejournal.com profile] fidgetcub. Thanks, guys -- having your laughs and suggestions in the crowd made it super-great for me. And I'll get funnier, I promise :)

Got a haircut Saturday morning with [livejournal.com profile] teelo, and coincidentally ran into [livejournal.com profile] cpratt and [livejournal.com profile] danlmarmot again, joined this time by the lovely and talented [livejournal.com profile] sinnabor. Plans were made for later that evening, and we joined each other at Loteria inside Farmer's Market, joined by my other pals Marcos and Dave, visiting from Stockton. Capped the evening with some beers and revelry at the Faultline, and four of us went for late-night weenie bites at Pink's.

Sunday afternoon, I slathered on tons of sunscreen (but forgot my upper lip) and went to Redondo Beach, where my pals Frank and Dean were hosting a small private pool party. It was a near-perfect day -- not too many people, very relaxing, good food and lots of pool-volleyball. The day passed in a snap, and we left just before sundown.

Being that it was the Fourth, fireworks were in order -- but we didn't want to suffer any crowds or long drives. So, based on the sage advice of [livejournal.com profile] moroccomole, we drove to the top of the parking structure at the ArcLight Cinemas in Hollywood, and lo and behold, a panoramic view of the entire LA basin lay before us. Soon after sundown, fireworks were blasting in all directions -- mostly far away, but it made for a pretty wonderful evening nonetheless. The only thing missing was a good musical score -- which all fireworks shows need -- so my trusty iPod and convertible's sound system were put to good use. Oh, and my total geek-factor came into play as well, as thankfully I had a couple of Disney park soundtracks (EuroDisney Electrical Parade, Epcot's "Reflections of Earth" Millennium Fireworks Show) on hand. Nerd-tron!

Monday found us at [livejournal.com profile] teelo & Paul's pad for a lovely afternoon brunch, after which I dozed soundly on their living room rug for a short nap. A little afternoon shopping, then Spiderman 2 at the ArcLight with [livejournal.com profile] fidgetcub, which I totally loved (even got all teary at the end of the train scene, when all the passengers lift him back inside -- disarmingly moving for a superhero film).

Tuesday morning, had to travel to Logan, Utah for a brief set of business meetings early Wednesday morning. They put me up in the nicest place in Logan, a B&B called the Anniversary Inn. It's a bit akin to the famed Madonna Inn off the 101 in California, replete with themed rooms for randy couples. I stayed in the "King Arthur's Castle" room, which even had a sword in a stone -- and the hefty, real-steel sword was removable. It's now the only hotel room I've ever been in that included a complimentary weapon. Oh, and free cheesecake in the mini-fridge for the happy couples to share.

Came home last night and went to improv class, where we reveled in a "post mortem" of our first show. Everyone was positive -- perhaps a bit too positive, especially the ones that, in my opinion, are boat anchors that keep the rest of the group back. But, it was a good session on Wednesday night, and even the boat anchors who tend to A.) not listen or B.) not break bad habits of "writing" the scene for everyone, were showing signs of "playing along". So we'll see how that goes.

Back to a slow workload and a sore lip.
